- A Glimpse Into the World of PMU for Men
It is no secret that permanent makeup is a booming industry, with treatments for women becoming more and more popular every day. But what you may not know is that this trend is starting to catch on with men as well. In fact, an increasing number of men are turning to PMU (permanent makeup) procedures to enhance their features or improve symmetry. If you're considering getting PMU done, whether it is for the first time or as a returning client, this article is for you. We'll give you some tips on how to find the right practitioner and what to expect from your treatment. Eyeliner for Men Men have been wearing eyeliner since the 1950s; James Brown & Little Richard enjoyed the results from adding definition to their eyes. More recently in the 1980s many pop stars adopted guy liner for smokey moody sultry eyes. Boy George has continued to enjoy the appearance & benefits of traditional make up. Johnny Depp is reported to have had an eyelash enhancement; a fine pmu eyeliner which makes your lashes look fuller & in turn your eyes more striking. Microblading Eyebrows for Men It is rumoured actors including Nicolas Cage & Dustin Hoffman have had their eyebrows microbladed. This techniques uses a fine hand tool to add hair stroke patterns when hair is missing, sparse or fine. The benefit is a more defined, bold & masculine brow, when this is done well by an experienced artist the result is so realistic & natural looking; it is often undetectable. Lip blush for Men The benefit of a tint of a natural tone added to male lips is a more youthful tone, often considered more attractive to kiss, The treatment can add definition, improve symmetry & give the appearance of more volume without the use of fillers. Practice for lip tattooing is often performed on a balloon; this demonstrates how lightly the pigment is embedded in order to cause minimal trauma to the lip tissue. Results & tone can easily resemble a richer natural tone without resembling lipstick whatsoever. What is male permanent makeup and how is it different from female permanent makeup? Male permanent makeup is essentially the same as female PMU, just tailored specifically to men. Men's PMU treatments focus on enhancement of masculine features such as the male brow, eyes and lips. In most cases PMU for men will be subtle, ultra realistic and natural-looking - it is not meant to resemble make up or look artificial. Another difference between PMU for men and women is in the techniques used. For example, male PMU may require adaptations to needle depth and diameter plus specific hair stroke patterns. Mens' eyebrows require a pattern that has inconsistencies, to resemble genuine hair stroke patterns. Female brow hair is more commonly fine & orderly in spine formation & growth pattern. Male brows are often less refined with hair growth following less ordered formations; to emulate realism it is imperative to mimic natural patterns. This will ensure that the results are as close to perfect as possible without being obvious or unnatural-looking. How to choose a qualified permanent makeup artist for your needs? When it comes to PMU treatments, the most important thing is finding a qualified and reputable PMU artist. After all, you don't want your permanent makeup to look anything less than perfect! Here are some tips to help you find the right PMU practitioner: Check their credentials and certifications: Make sure that any PMU artist you're considering has the proper qualifications and experience. Ask for proof of their professional experience and training, as well as references & examples from past male clients if possible. Research their portfolio: A good PMU artist should have an extensive portfolio of before-and-after photos for you to view. This will enable you to see various examples of how their work looks & is adapted on different faces so that you can make an informed decision. It is key that the artist that you choose tailors the treatment to your requirement & has the ability to create bespoke style. Ask about their PMU techniques: Different PMU artists may have different approaches and techniques when it comes to PMU. You can ask for male microblading, cosmetic tattooing, micropigmentation, and more. Make sure you ask questions about their methods, as well as the type of products they use for PMU treatments. Consider the price: Permanent makeup is an investment, the result will be on your face for years to come. As is the case in many professions; all artists have varied training, experience & will be using wildly different quality equipment. In order to provide you with a better understanding regarding the high price tag for the treatments; reputable artists will have spent in excess of £10000 on their initial training. This training includes in depth understanding of different skin types, medical contradictions & tailored after care advise. The pigment & instruments your artist uses strongly influences the result. Therefore please consider more than just the price tag, remember the longevity of the result & value your artists investment & experience. This is not a decision you should make based on cheapest, choose the right artist for you. Book a consultation: Lastly, make sure to arrange a consultation with the PMU artist prior to booking your appointment. During the consultation, ask as many questions as you need to feel comfortable and make sure that all your concerns are addressed. What to expect during the procedure and aftercare instructions? During PMU for men's treatments, you can expect the PMU artist to apply a topical numbing cream before starting the procedure. This will help ensure that the treatment is as comfortable and pain-free as possible. Once the numbness has set in, the PMU artist will begin the PMU treatment according to your individual needs. The first treatment takes between 90mins - 2 hours from start to finish, most artists will request to see you again in 6-8weeks. Your second appointment will be to tweak & perfect any areas that have not retained or to go darker or bolder if necessary, working this way trust is developed between artist & client. After the PMU treatment is complete, it is important to follow all of your PMU artist's aftercare instructions carefully. This will help ensure that you get the best possible results and that your permanent makeup looks flawless for years to come. These instructions may include avoiding direct sunlight, applying ointments or creams, and avoiding certain activities such as swimming or exercising. PMU is for you too! From hair loss to uneven eyebrows, there are various natural things that can be fixed with PMU. All you need to do is to choose the right PMU artist for you. Choosing the right PMU artist is essential for achieving the best possible results with PMU treatments. With these tips you needn't hesitate; you too can achieve quality technique PMU treatments tailored specifically to your needs and preferences.
- Your Complete Guide to Permanent Makeup in Brighton by Jemma Jarman.
Whilst permanent make up is an ever growing industry, many are still unaware of all the possibilities & advantages. I will share with you what is available to you & why so many consider it a confidence boosting, time saving life hack. Firstly what is permanent make up? Permanent makeup is the term used to describe cosmetic facial tattooing, the use of which was developed and advanced to help restore features following medical conditions such as alopecia, cleft lip scarring or hair loss following chemotherapy. Any condition which has caused the individual to desire restoration of a feature. This extends to affected motor skills where individuals find it increasingly difficult to apply make up. The skill & artistry of pmu has soared in recent years with industry leaders sharing knowledge & developing technique & tools. The demand for non medical aesthetic treatments has grown especially due to over plucked eyebrows & many seeking a fuller brow. In addition it has proven widely popular for ladies who desire a more defined lip shape, or who have lost definition as a result of ageing or dermal filler. Demand for lash enhancements or eyeliner is especially popular for individuals with sensitive eyes, active in sport, or with reduced eyesight. The industry has exploded with many realising the time that can be saved by waking each day with your make up already applied. The frustrations of applying make up well each day are common; the choice to have it applied with precision & it remain flawless at all times is desirable. This article will discuss the many benefits of semi-permanent makeup and what to expect when getting it done. So whether you're considering getting permanent makeup or want to learn more about it, keep reading! Permanent makeup can be used for a variety of purposes: Save time in the morning: Permanent makeup can save you the time and effort of applying your daily makeup. It's ideal for busy professionals or those with active lifestyles who don't have time to devote to a lengthy beauty routine. Good for people with makeup allergies: If you are allergic to makeup, this can be a great way to achieve the results you want without having to worry about reactions. I recommend visiting an experienced permanent makeup artist for desired results, as with all cosmetic procedures research, reviews & recommendation are essential. Enhance facial features: Permanent makeup is used to enhance eyebrows, eyes & lips. Eyebrows can be treated using various techniques & many terms are used to describe the styles available to you. Microblading uses a hand tool to emulate hair & is performed in a pattern to create realism. In addition the tattoo machine can be used in combination to add shading to the brow for depth of colour. A bolder brow can be created using just the machine for hair strokes, other terms commonly used are powder, shaded or ombre brow. The method used depends on the individuals skin type & desired result, an experience technician will guide you to what best suits your requirement. An eyelash enhancement is a very fine eyeliner positioned in the lash line in order for the lashes to look fuller but subtle enough that eyeliner is not apparent. Alternatively varying thickness eyeliner styles can be achieved with or without shading &/or a wing flick. Eyeliner treatment artists must pay careful attention to the delicate skin in the corner of the eyes. Lip contour or lip blush treatments achieve richer lip color & greater definition. Additional color added to the lips is often considered as appearing more youthful & desirable. Dark tone lips can be neutralised & a pink or red tone developed with informed color selection. Naturally the color achieved is smudge proof & will likely remain vibrant for 2 years. Save money: Depending on the product range that you choose make up items can soon add up & be a big expenditure for women. Plus the products wasted which are bought to try but then discarded as not suitable. PMU can seem a big outlay initially but when compared to topical make up; the time & effort saved plus financial saving over time is guaranteed worth the investment. Create timeless looks: Wake up make up is a popular term; this is because whilst pmu can be performed in striking styles it is best used for timeless styles due to its longevity in the skin. Realistic natural looking feature enhancements are possible for everyday confidence & topical additional make up can be applied for occasions where bolder make up is desired. This way your pmu is completely adaptable for all outfits & occasions. Benefits of Permanent Make up Saves time and effort in applying daily makeup Flawless precision application Saves stress of uneven application Doesn't irritate or smudge Results can last for years Cheaper than buying new products every few months What to expect during the procedure? Skin assessment: Before the procedure, a skin assessment should be performed to make sure that permanent makeup is appropriate for you. During this assessment, the practitioner will examine your skin type and determine the best course of action. Comfort: Depending on where you are getting permanent makeup done, many practitioners will use numbing cream. It will help you with any discomfort during the procedure. The process: The actual process of getting permanent makeup can take anywhere from one to three hours depending on what areas you are having done. Be sure to talk to your practitioner, ask as many questions as you have before starting so that you have understanding & confidence. - A Beginner’s Guide to Lip Blushing: Everything You Need to Know
Do you want to change the appearance of your lips but don't know where to start? Lip blushing may be the perfect solution for you! This type of cosmetic lip tattooing procedure can give you younger-looking lips by altering both colour and shape. In this article, we will discuss everything you need to know about lip blushing including what it is, how it's done, and what the results will be. We'll also answer some common questions that people have about lip blushing. So if you're interested in learning more, keep reading! What is lip blushing and how is it done? Lip blushing is a type of semi-permanent cosmetic lip tattooing that focuses on altering both colour and shape to create younger-looking lips. The pigments are deposited in your lips using small needles, similar to traditional tattoo art. However, lip blushing is less invasive and uses smaller needles than traditional tattooing. This makes the lip-blushing process much less painful and results in less swelling and bruising. The lip blushing procedure usually takes about 1-2 hours to complete. After the initial lip-blushing session, you may need 1-2 touch-up sessions to achieve the desired results. Also, it features a complete healing process in which the lip skin heals itself. You must follow expert instructions and use products like numbing cream for the best results. Benefits of lip blushing: There are many benefits of semi-permanent lip blushing, which is why this cosmetic tattooing procedure is becoming increasingly popular. Some of the top benefits include: Correct asymmetry and unevenness: If your lips are asymmetrical or have uneven colouring, lip blushing can help to correct these imperfections. This is because the lip-blushing pigments can be used to even out the colour of your lips and create a more symmetrical appearance. Your lip colour will last all day: The best benefit of lip blushing is that your lip colour remains flawless all of the time. This is because the lip-blushing pigment is embedded in to the skin via a very shallow cosmetic tattoo. The result can be a natural colour enhancement or change of natural lip colour as achieved with dark lip neutralisation. No fading or smudge throughout the day & no daily re application necessary, although gloss will make the colour pop! Improve self-confidence: For many women & men the most important benefit of lip blushing is that it can improve your self-confidence. If you're not happy with the appearance of your lips, semi-permanent makeup can give you a beautiful, even & natural-looking fuller lip. This can boost your self-confidence and help you fall back in love with your reflection. Different techniques for achieving a natural-looking lip blush: There are a few different lip-blushing techniques that can be used to achieve a natural-looking lip colour. These include: Ombré technique: The ombré lip-blushing technique involves using a lighter natural lip colour on the inner part of your lips and darker or more concentrated colour on the outer part of your lips. This creates a gradient effect that is similar to the ombré brow trend. Gradients of density of colour or saturation can create clever & effective illusions. Full lip blush: Colour packing lip-blushing technique involves a very gentle technique creating pixels of colour in the lip surface, this is layered to create density & saturation of colour. The colour is individual to the client, can create more youthful richer tones or change the hue of the lip colour. Dark Lip Neutralisation: This has become increasingly popular since Industry leaders have fashioned an advanced skill & method to neutralise dark tone in lips. Firstly the cool undertone needs to be neutralised with an orange flame saturated colour. Once a more even & neutralised lip has healed a destination colour can be achieved in one or two further appointments. Lip line & contour technique: Lip line-only is a cosmetic tattoo technique that involves tattooing pigment into the lip line (vermilion border). This is a great option if you want to define your lip line & can make your lips look fuller by tattooing on the very edge of the lip tissue, it is not advisable to tattoo outside of the vermilion border. This should always be blended somewhat into the lip & not appear as a stand alone line around the lip. Distorted lip shape as a result of filler injected into the lip: Increasingly women are seeking pigment to be added to regain definition to their lips. Some are happy with the size of their lips. However having increased the volume in the lip it has caused the lip edge to be domed & loose colour definition. Pigment can be added to re-establish the lip tissue from the skin tissue & recreate a gorgeous defined lip shape. Now that you know all about lip blushing treatment, let's discuss some tips for keeping your lip colour looking fresh all day long. Moisturise with balm & wear sunblock to achieve the best colour retention: Wear a lip balm in all weather to help keep lips dewy. A high factor lip screen is always beneficial to getting long lasting results from your Lip Blush plus protecting your lips from the harmful suns' rays. Exfoliate your lips regularly: One of the best ways to keep your lip colour looking fresh is to exfoliate your lips regularly. This will help to remove any dead skin cells that could make your lip colour look dull. You can exfoliate your lips with a sugar scrub or a lip balm with exfoliating particles. Book a Colour boost with Jemma every 18 months - 2 yearS Many like to return for a colour boost appointment; after this time they may notice the colour has faded a little & would like to restore the colours' vibrancy. It is also possible to change the colour choice as the colour is layered you can change your chosen lip colour. PERMANENT MAKE UP WHAT IS PERMANENT MAKE UP? Permanent make up is one of a few descriptions for ink embedded into the dermis of the skin that resembles freshly & professionally applied topical make up. It is also referred to as semi permanent make up & tattooed make up. Whilst it is true that the ink will fade over time many variables affect how quickly to what degree it will fade. Permanent make up prevents misleading a client as it is impossible to guarantee that over time the embedded ink will disappear completely. VARIABLE FACTORS Age How quickly your skin rejuvenates. Lifestyle including outdoor activities exposed to sun & other elements. Skin care routine & beauty treatments. Immune response & or medications. A tattoo can mimic eyeliner or lipstick, or it can darken and create the appearance of thicker eyebrows. The other popular terms are referring to the technique used & style in which the treatment is performed. Microblading uses a hand tool not a machine & is used primarily to create hair simulation, only used for eyebrows. It can replicate missing or sparse hair, add density of colour, width or height to client's brow. I use Tina Davies microblades as detailed here. TATTOO MACHINE A tattoo machine can also be used for permanent make up brow procedures; more commonly but not exclusively the machine wand creates powder shaded brows, a result called ombre or combination brows. A combination brow commonly has stroke work (hair simulation or feathering) plus shaded areas for density of colour. This is generally a border, dynamic resulting appearance. I will ascertain your goal & preferences in order to create your bespoke brows based on your skin type & desired result. All elements will be discussed, guided & mutually agreed upon. A machine is always used for permanent lip colour/blushing, lip contouring or lip liner & fine or bold eyeliner. Other terms include lash enhancement which is a fine liner at the base of the lashes resulting in a subtle but effective method to make lashes appear fuller in an eye opening style. Alternatively different thickness eye liner can be created & small flick detail in the outer corner of the eye if desired. The Microbeau Flux Mini tattoo machine is one of the industry leading tools & my go to preferred tattoo wand. This machine paired with Tina Davis needle cartridges guarantees the desired flawless results I demand with every treatment. HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE? Your first appointment will take 2 hours. Creating a shape that you love, one that is timeless & bespoke to you is paramount before the first treatment. Brow mapping will be performed measuring the contours of your face & creating brows that are geometrically correct for the contours of your face. At the stage any adjustments to balance the brows & correct symmetry will be designed & mutually agreed. Once the treatment commences it takes between 60 - 90 mins. Six to eight weeks later the second session is performed in order to tweak & perfect the colour & shape is necessary, this appointment generally takes 90 mins.
